Nefacossus fluvius (meaning: "river sin-slug"), is a strange, unique, armored, arthropod-like craniate from the wetlands and rivers of Skull Island. It measures 3 feet long (90 centimeters).

Facts[]

A case of convergent evolution with the neopedes, Nefacossus was descended from primitive cephalochordates, a family from which lampreys and hagfish sprang. Instead of eyes, Nefacossus used its rudimentary lateral line to home in on movement in the water that would betray the presence of small prey.

Trivia[]

  • It is unknown why a vertebrate like the Nefacossus decided to evolve to have multiple limbs like those of a myriapod. Indeed, it is unknown if those claw appendages are a truly bizarre case of multiple limbs, or mere pseudo-limbs made from highly-evolved and specialised fins.
  • Like all animals from Skull Island. It is unknown what they faced during the sinking of the island. Given the multiple expeditions, there may be a chance that a few surviving populations was saved off-land to a more stable enclosure.
