Aerosaurus verdens ("green aerial lizard") is a 7-10 inches (18-25 centimeters) long species of flying lizard called "flyzards" that is found on Skull Island. The animal is described in the book "The World of Kong: A Natural History of Skull Island" (2005).

Facts[]

In testimony to the boundless ingenuity of nature, Aerosaurus is yet another convergent line of unrelated flying lizards native to Skull Island.

Being able to escape a predator on the wing, it would seem, was too valuable a card to pass up when being dealt a hand in evolution. With webbed membranes between their long toes and along their limbs, these anolelike flyers could sustain only short glides from tree to tree, but they were usually enough to save them from the jaws of big centipedes or other flightless canopy predators.

The agile Skull Island Hawk, however, was not so easily avoided. The handsome bluish bird could adeptly pluck an Aerosaurus out of the air midflight.

Trivia[]

  • The Aerosaurus resembles Sharovipteryx, an extinct reptile from Asia during the Triassic.
  • Like all animals from Skull Island. It is unknown what they faced during the sinking of the island. Given the multiple expeditions, there may be a chance that a few surviving populations was saved off-land to a more stable enclosure.
