Estrivermis, (15-20 inches long) an annelid that uses its sharp-rasping mouth to dig into the flesh of a host until it locates a blood vessel, sometimes several inches deep. Fusing itself inside, it feeds on life-sustaining blood directly from the veins. Once attached, the parasite remains embedded, its tail dangling outside the body of the host, expelling waste and eggs into the water.
