The Dark-wing is a bird native to Skull Island and is a dedicated insectivore. It resembles woodpeckers, but isn't related.
Facts[]
A bird analogous to woodpeckers, yet is of a different group, the Dark-wing is an example of convergent-evolution (meaning two unrelated animal-groups share things in common). Like woodpeckers, the Dark-wing has a taste for wood-boring insects and will gouge into the wood to get them.
As its name implies, the wings of a Dark-wing is quite dark and muted, possible to act as a camouflage system against predators. The feathers have a dark blue overcoat, although the underbelly of a Dark-wing is noticeable lighter, almost beige in colouration.
Trivia[]
- It is unknown what family of birds the Dark-wing actually belongs to.
- It, alongside the majority of flying birds would have likely survived the sinking of Skull Island without the help of humans.
